Is this value still used? Can not find any reference to this parameter in the files id5IdSystem.js or id5AnalyticsAdapter.js

Yes, this parameter is used, although not directly by the module.
Instead, it is passed to and handled by an external module when using the module with the params.externalModuleUrl parameter
