Recommended approach for a global installation of jupyter

Hi all,

I am experimenting with pixi, and specifically I am trying to move my jupyter installation into a pixi global environment: I tend to use one running jupyter server instance for all activities.

I have, however, run into the following limitations of pixi global:

• It seems to be impossible to add packages to an existing environment. For that reason, for example, it is impossible to install extensions (jupyterlab does not see them).
• It seems to be impossible to define tasks (e.g. I'd like to make the default jupyter server a pixi task).
• pixi global install --pypi doesn't exist

Therefore I'd like to know:

• Does my approach match the pixi global use case, or should I rather create a project that defines the environment?
• If using pixi global is appropriate for this, is there a way to circumvent the above issues?
