Signed cookie for sub folder example

How would you generate a signed cookie with access to anything under a specific sub folder?

ie

- folder 1 (no access)
- folder 2 (access)
  - file 1 (access)
  - file 2 (access)

I'm a bit fuzzy on this, but I think Cloudfront supports wildcards, but that's about it. So for fine grained control you need to generate it per item.
