Unable to start kube-prometheus

I'm encountering a few problems with the quickstart
Here is what happens when I run the build.sh script:-

$ ./build.sh example.jsonnet

And this happens when I try to create the monitoring stack using configuration in manifests directory

$ kubectl apply --server-side -f manifests/setup
error: error reading [manifests/setup]: recognized file extensions are [.json .yaml .yml]

Can someone please assist me with debugging this issue?
