Using datalad run to run a windows executable from wsl2 without problems #105

Origin: DataLad matrix chat

User first requested information about unlocking files on windows via wsl2 (windows subsystem for linux, see relevant handbook content: https://handbook.datalad.org/en/latest/basics/101-115-symlinks.html#cross-os-filesharing-with-symlinks-wsl2-only), but the focus of this issue is to get a workable example of using datalad run to run a windows executable from wsl2, taking sharing of files between the operating systems as well as symlink resolution into account.

Last update from user:

You'll need to write a short shell script to run and use wslpath -w to translate linux to windows paths for windows software to run on (in windows environment). This will resolve symlinks to proper windows path (follow). However I have not tested this

TODO (not necessarily to be performed in this order)

  • Inform OP/Add reference to this issue at origin
  • Clarifying Qs asked or not needed
  • Nature of the issue is understood
  • Inform OP about resolution
  • get an update from user or test this ourselves
  • write a KBI or handbook addition on the outcome
