Support for multimedia in platform?

I see in the FAQ on Limitations that file uploads, including images, are not currently supported for upload in the Rich Text field. Is there a plan to make this possible in the future? Will it be possible in future to embed media (files, videos, audio, maps, and other interactive media)? The community I co-edit relies heavily on these features in Legacy.

Hello! Yes, file uploads and embedded media with pubs - including images, video, audio, and other files will continue to be supported in Platform.

You can see the Media Upload option in the sandbox in the toolbar when editing a Rich Text field. (See screenshot below.) Any attempted uploads are disabled in the sandbox to prevent spam, but the basic functionality is there.
