I am new to PyBaMM and want to use it to simulate a battery´s capacity degradation for different parameters (cycle protocol, c-rate, temperature, ...). I have found experimental data for a 21700 cylindrical cell LG M50T battery in Kirkaldy, N., Samieian, M. A., Offer, G. J., Marinescu, M., & Patel, Y. (2024). Lithium-ion battery degradation: Comprehensive cycle ageing data and analysis for commercial 21700 cells. Journal of Power Sources, 603, 234185 and want to replicate the experiment in PyBaMM. In experiment 5 they use the protocol:
I have used the code in the notebook https://docs.pybamm.org/en/latest/source/examples/notebooks/models/coupled-degradation.html to simulate the battery. In the code they use the degradation model from O'Kane, S. E., Ai, W., Madabattula, G., Alonso-Alvarez, D., Timms, R., Sulzer, V., ... & Marinescu, M. (2022). Lithium-ion battery degradation: how to model it. Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 24(13), 7909-7922 who uses the parameters for an LG M50T battey.
In the paper they show discharge capacity after 1000 cycles for a standard protocol that is similar to the one in the experimental data. The plot looks similar to the degradation that I get from PyBaMM too.
I would expect a similar cycle life for the experimental data however the PyBaMM model suggests a much longer cycle life.
I don´t know whether I need to make adjustments to the degradation model or parameter set to get a similar degration to the experimental data.
I appreciate any help and ideas!
