DC Motors need more power to begin turning than they do to continue running. They are also slowed by friction. In regards to trains, this can be observed by trying to start slowly and when navigating curves.
Presumably this can also be seen by increases in the current draw.
Has anyone used current draw readings to modulate DC Motor duty cycle to a) enable smoother low speed starts and b) maintain speed during times of increased load?
