Pybrick Blocks parameters to my own functions

I am working on building some of my own blocks (aka functions) in Pybrick blocks. I can easily see how to define the function as requiring a parameter be passed to is. What I can't find is the orange blacks that I see in the example codes that allow me to access these passed values.
I have gone through every menu without success. Can you please point me in the rihgt directions?

You can drag them from where they are (where you've added them) to where you need them.
