Project Proposal : Style the site to PyLadiesCon theme #4

I'm Nethmi! I'm excited to be part of Google Summer of Code 2025 and contribute to PyLadiesCon. I’ve prepared a proposal to style the site according to PyLadiesCon Theme #4 and would love to receive feedback from mentors and the community before I submit it.

🌟 Proposal Overview

Hi everyone! I’m Nethmi Karunaratne, a first-year Software Engineering student who’s passionate about clean UI and web accessibility. I’m confident in HTML and CSS, and I absolutely loved exploring the PyLadiesCon website. After noticing a few areas for improvement, I created a visual mockup to suggest a refreshed, modern, and configurable dark theme for the site.

My goal is to develop a theme that:

• Is visually appealing (light theme with red/pink/white/grey highlights)
• Keeps the design accessible and responsive
• Can be easily updated via a non-complex css file

🔍 Issues Observed

• Color scheme feels a bit basic for a global, vibrant community like PyLadies
• Footer lacks harmony with the header and visual flow
• Minimal use of visuals/icons for contact, sponsors, and updates

🔧 Proposed Changes

• Build a light-themed layout with configurable colors and fonts
• Add CSS transform/load effects for subtle animations
• Improve navigation and make the header/footer cohesive
• Include relevant icons/images for a more engaging experience
• Add favicon and title bar enhancements
• Ensure accessibility using WAVE and semantic HTML
• Use pure HTML and CSS

📅 Weekly Timeline

Week 1: Setup & Layout

• Set up project structure and variable file (variables.css)
• Build homepage sections: main, navbar, footer
• Create base layout
• Start styling

Week 2: Features & Accessibility

• Add about, news, and sponsor sections
• Apply animations and transitions (on load/hover)
• Check accessibility with WAVE tool
• Begin testing responsiveness and modularity

Week 3: Final Touches & Delivery

• Complete remaining pages: Contact, Sessions, etc.
• Add title bar/favicon
• Finalize mobile view and responsive tweaks
• Write documentation and submit final version
