Set default python version

How do I define which version of Python Hatch should always default to when creating a random environment?

If I want to run a one-off Python script, where I don't have a full project.toml setup going on, I often use hatch shell to open an environment and run it. However hatch shell usually defaults to Python 3.11, but I'd like to use 3.12 by default. How do I configure this?

Setting the HATCH_PYTHON environment variable to the path to the desired Python executable is the solution to this.

hatch shell and hatch run won't use current HATCH_PYTHON, if env is created before

if you create env before, use hatch env prune first.

tldr

hatch python install 3.10
hatch python find 3.10
# use the path show in last command
export HATCH_PYTHON=~/.local/share/hatch/pythons/3.10/python/bin/python3
hatch env prune # if you create env before, use this to clear old env
hatch shell
python --version

Thanks for the update! However, just to clarify for people who may see this, my situation was for running one-off scripts or projects that don't have previous hatch support or environments created. It's for when I want to make a new venv for myself.
