Pip Index URL to AWS Code Artifacte

Hi guys,

I am working on a project where I have python packages in AWS Code Artifacte. Now I want to use the pip index url like, in pyproject.toml file,

[tool.hatch.envs.default.env-vars]
PIP_INDEX_URL = "https://aws:{env:AWS_CODEARTIFACT_TOKEN}@{env:CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN}-{env:CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN_OWNER}.d.codeartifact.{env:AWS_REGION}.amazonaws.com/pypi/{env:CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN}/simple"
PIP_EXTRA_INDEX_URL = "https://pypi.org/simple/"

Error on above setup,

ValueError: Nonexistent environment variable must set a default: AWS_CODEARTIFACT_TOKEN

AWS_CODEARTIFACT_TOKEN can be generated by command on terminal,

aws codeartifact login --tool pip --repository $CODEARTIFACT_REPOSITORY --domain $CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN --domain-owner $CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN_OWNER --region $AWS_REGION

I have tried to include environment file as follows,

[tool.hatch.envs.default]
env-file = ".env"

Any idea or suggestion how can I use hatch where it will dynamically load the Token in pip index url.

Have you set those environment variables in your shell config or in your current session? There is an open feature request for supporting .env files.

Ah I see, I have not done that, but now I have set the environment variables. It works. It takes environment variables from shell. Thank you.

Second issue that I am trying to get dynamically the token,

[tool.hatch.envs.default]
python = "3.9"
pre-install-commands = [
    "export {env: AWS_CODEARTIFACT_TOKEN}=`aws codeartifact get-authorization-token --domain {env:CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN} --domain-owner {env:CODEARTIFACT_DOMAIN_OWNER} --region {env:AWS_REGION} --query authorizationToken --output text`"
]

This is not working.

Do you have some idea, if I can use some other approach

I don't know if this would work for your situation but could you have a base script setup that would output what you want from a file if it doesn't exist but read it if it does then export that as an environment variable? Every real script could be like setup && real stuff here.
