PEP 541 Request: CoveragePy #7204

@nedbat

Description

@nedbat

Project to be claimed

coveragePy: https://pypi.org/project/coveragePy

Your PyPI username

nedbatchelder: https://pypi.org/user/nedbatchelder

Reasons for the request

The project is abandoned (last published Dec 2020), has no README, and the GitHub link is to an empty repo: https://github.com/chexiedaping/coveragePy

The name is confusingly similar to my project https://pypi.org/project/coverage/ which uses "coveragepy" as the GitHub repo name: https://github.com/nedbat/coveragepy/

I don't believe the author is malicious: the code seems to be a half-completed web service for coverage data. I don't see any malware in it, though someone taking a quick glance may be alarmed at network code in what they thought was a command-line testing tool.

I've written emails to the owner in December 2022, January 2023, and July 2025, and have heard nothing.

If transferred, I will replace the project with a README that points to my project.
