About the project
uharfbuzz provides Python bindings for HarfBuzz, the industry-standard open-source text shaping engine used for complex text layout and rendering across multiple writing systems.
HarfBuzz is a critical component of modern digital typography, powering text rendering in Android, Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Adobe Creative Suite, game engines, and Linux desktop environments.
The uharfbuzz project has been active since April 2018 (7.5 years) and is maintained under the HarfBuzz organization on GitHub. We provide Python developers with streamlined access to HarfBuzz's text shaping capabilities, which are essential for font rendering, typography tools, document processing, and internationalization support.
The uharfbuzz wheels all incorporate the HarfBuzz library so users don't have to install the latter separately or rely on the system installed one.
How large is each release?
Total size: 552.07 MB (0.54 GB)
- 78 files total
- 77 wheel files (various platforms and Python versions)
- 1 source tarball (tar.gz)
The largest individual files are the Linux (manylinux and musllinux) wheels at around 15-16 MB each, while the smallest are the Windows 32-bit wheels at around 1 MB each.
How frequently do you make a release?
We make approximately 12 releases per year (roughly one per month), with 19 releases in the last 12 months. Release frequency has increased recently as we track HarfBuzz upstream updates closely.
