What's the issue with linked PR and why wasn't it merged ?

As noted, it needs a blurb at the very least. And it needs documentation.

But the bigger issue is that there’s been no discussion if this is the appropriate API.

Apart from documentation , what exactly needs to be done on this issue ?

@ericvsmith, would you prefer a method that would also return RFC 6052 embedded addresses when a network mask is provided?

@malvidin : I don't use IPv6 enough to have a valid opinion. My point is just that the API needs some discussion before the PR is accepted. It would probably be best to engage with @ncoghlan or @sandrotosi or others who have worked on ipaddress.py. And it's probably worth starting a conversation on https://discuss.python.org/c/ideas/6
