Attribute table forced to be dockable and non modal - Crash several times

What is the bug or the crash?

Using 3.44.0
Attribute tables are behaving in a new - and not so good way:
Attribute tables keeps focus - stay in front of the map. Not able to minimize.
Attribute tables try to dock when moving to a new position.
When dragging one table over another it try to either make a new tab behind/in front of the other. Or It tries to view side by side and then QGIS crash.

Indeed, it looks like that using a blank new user profile, the attribute table opens as a docked window by default when running QGIS 3.44.0, while it opens as a non-docked window when running QGIS LTR 3.40.8 and QGIS 3.42.3 and previous versions.

In both cases, the option "Open attribute table as docked window" (in Settings ► Options ► Data sources) is unchecked; thus, QGIS 3.44 doesn't respects such setting.

@LeneFischer, you can avoid that the attribute tables open as docked windows running QGIS 3.44 just clicking the "Dock attribute table" button in the attribute table window.

@agiudiceandrea, not sure if it's related to the same changes in QGIS core, but I'm experiencing a regression of #11953 as well. Attribute tables are supposed to be tabified if the option you mentioned ("Open attribute table as docked window" (in Settings ► Options ► Data sources)) is checked. Can you please confirm?

@LeneFischer, I cannot replicate the crash. Could you please provide a QGIS project file and layer file and detailed step-by-step instruction to replicate the issue?

• Take any project with a vector layer
• Open an attribute table *2
• Drag slowly the attribute tabel over the other attribute table then you see the result.

I am also seeing this crash. I upgraded from 3.42.3 to 3.44.0 and the problem started happening. It happens in a new user profile, and with all of my projects. Here are my steps to replicate:

• Open attribute table for any layer.
• If the table is docked, undock it, move it off to the side of the main window, and close it. Then re-open it.
• Open attribute table for another layer. It will open on top of the previous table.
• Drag the new table off to the side and release the mouse button.
• Rhe first table will often go blank (the window is entirely gray, with just a title bar)
• Drag the new table back on top of the first table. Make sure your mouse is over the table part of the first table (not on top of the title bar).
• QGIS will crash with Windows exception access violation:
