How to disable figure numbering in HTML?

Description

When using cross-reference format to insert an image (i.e., adding fig-something as a label), the image will be automatically numbered like this: "Figure X. Caption" in HTML format.

Is it possible to turn off -- optimally globally, for the whole document -- the "Figure X" part...? (But I wish to keep the caption.)

Don't use the cross-reference prefixes (i.e., fig-).
To expand on what I said on the other thread, fig- and a caption means your image is a figure thus can be cross-referenced.
If you set that ID at a div level, it means you are building a cross-reference div.

You could also try regular (S)CSS and/or JavaScript to remove/hide the content.

Yes, but I feel that I am now stuck... If I want the two-column block (created with fenced div and layout) to be non-floating in PDF, I have to add fig- (together with fig-pos: H), but if I do so, figure numbering appears in HTML. On the other hand, if I remove fig- to get rid of the figure numbering, the two-column block will start floating in PDF...

Sorry, but your use case is quite unclear especially on where is the issue in:

Could you go back to the other thread and explain your complete use case and not a small part of it?

Also, here for some reason you want the same markup to behave completely across formats which is the exact opposite of Quarto's main goal.
