I can't create a Quarto document under RStudio > File > New File

I can't create a Quarto document under File > New File in RStudio. RStudio>File>New File, there is no quarto document.The Render Websites button is also missing under the Build tab. I'm using the latest versions of both R (4.4.3) and RStudio (2024.12.1), quarto (1.6.42) and on Mac OS Sequoia 15.3.2, Mac M1 chip.

@cderv Thank you for your suggestions—I've tried each one of them. I've confirmed Quarto is properly installed and working in my PATH. Running quarto::quarto_binary_sitrep(debug = TRUE) returns “It is configured to use the latest version found in the PATH environment variable.TRUE”, indicating it's using the correct version. I can use quarto render in RStudio's Terminal to compile my .qmd documents and successfully generate the correct HTML files. However, when I use the Render button of qmd file tab generates incomplete HTML files missing YAML content. Additionally, I'm missing both the 'Quarto Document...' option under File > New File, the 'Quarto Website...' option under File > New Project in RStudio, and the “render websites” of “Build” tab.

Thanks for confirming. I would open an issue with RStudio IDE repo then, as quarto CLI is working for you, but not in the context of RStudio IDE integration. So there seems to be a problem, and they can help you debug further what RStudio IDE is trying to do.

I thought I had this problem but it turned out I didn't have Quarto in my PATH.

I followed these instructions https://docs.posit.co/resources/install-quarto.html and ultimately needed to run export PATH=/opt/quarto/1.6.42/bin:"$PATH" before I ran studio

Setup is Universal Blue Aurora with a fedora 36 distrobox and installing the rpm (sudo rpm -ivh rstudio-2024.12.1-563-x86_64.rpm) from https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/ https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/ - I had to install a bunch of dependencies using dnf

I also tried the debian 12 in a distrobox but got rstudio to run and no quarto there, probably just needed a bit more finagling.
