install quarto-cli in a virtual environment (pip install quarto-cli) fails on windows

Description

I would like to install the latest available quarto-cli 1.7.33 in a virtual environment on windows 11 for testing purpose, but the process fails with error.

I have already a system wide quarto installation (1.4.554) which works fine.

I followed the same procedure that worked in this here #11380 (comment) , but it fails with the following (just a snippet of the full attached error.log ):

Running like a madman again the same command uv pip install quarto-cli will produce a shorter error log, with a slightly different error message

I also tried and failed:

• clean uv cache
• update setuptools
• run pip install quarto-cli in a venv created by python venv module (no uv)
• parse the error log with chatgpt but it has hallucinate an error line that does not exist (something about permission denied)

Lastly I spun the WSL and there I was able to install quarto-cli in a venv by using uv pip install quarto-cli. Notably I don't have a system wide quarto installation in the WSL.

Did you try at another location than your "desktop"? at the root for example.

Did you enable long paths? This is a usual source of issues on Windows.

Changing root folder was not enough, "enabling long path" did the trick.

(for future reference, I had to clean the uv cache before)
