A way for quarto to auto-detect links as in Jupyter?

Hello,

I use quarto to blog from notebooks.
Standard behaviour of jupyter notebook is to turn url in markdown cells as html links.

This is my url: https://github.com/quarto-dev/quarto-cli

However this cell will be rendered by quarto as plain text.
Only option I see for the moment would be to enter this

but I guess there is a smarted way?

I think I need to run it with autolink_bare_uris extension.

Will run some tests and report it here.

@rgaiacs should be the way without the extension. <link> is the Markdown syntax to had link with not specific text

You want to add the extension to the Reader so

format:

    theme: cosmo
    css: styles.cs
    from: markdown+autolink_bare_uris

should be the way to do that.

Yes this seems to work.
Seems because it cannot go through the entire process.
It raises an error: ERROR: URIError: URI malformed

Is there a way to tell autolink_bare_uris extension to not try to convert on a given cell? (by example by starting a cell with some special command)

or any recommandation to isolate which part of my file is causing this issue.
(I can try to integrate cell by cell but it is quite a long entry)

I have identified the culprit
It was the content of a config file: doc_host = https://%(user)s.pages.gitlab.%(company_name)s.com/

just by surrounding with

```text   
doc_host = https://%(user)s.pages.gitlab.%(company_name)s.com/
```

helps to skip the autolink extension for this cell

I guess that is why autolink feature is not the default as it could be wrong in auto guessing.

Markdown form <link> is best, but it is a suitable option to use the extension if that works for you
