Problemas with date formatting in quarto document

If I include the following date in the yaml of a quarto document:

date: 13/01/2023
date-format: "DD/MM/YYYY"

The date in the rendered document is:

FECHA DE PUBLICACIÓN
01/01/2024

And in the citation:

Manuel Spínola. 2024. “crgeo un paquete de R con datos geoespaciales de Costa Rica.” January 1, 2024. https://mspinola-ciencia-de-datos.netlify.app/posts/2023-01-09-crgeo/crgeo.html.

I did mean a full document that can be rendered by itself (e.g., this links to a few files that you did not make available). I apologize for being relatively strict about this, but chasing down a minimal version is a large investment of time, and we appreciate the help from you.

But I understand what's happening. The input format of a date must be always given in "mm/dd/yyyy" or yyyy-mm-dd. date-format controls the output. On top of that, javascript's date parser is interpreting "13/01/2023" as "month 13, day 1, year 2023", or "month 1, day 1, year 2024". Our documentation does state, "The date format to use when displaying dates", instead of "when reading dates".
