Rendering qmd file to docx file

I am having difficulty with rendering the correct formatting of a docx file from a qmd

I’ve defined and edited a custom-reference.docx Even though I’ve changed all fonts to Black (no Blue), remove Italics and downsized most of the fonts, I’m still getting large, blue and italic font in my docx file.

I’m relatively new to Quarto and have been able to render ipynb, html and markdown, I’ve not been able to figure out my problem with rendering the formatting of Word documents.

quarto pandoc -o custom-reference.docx --print-default-data-file reference.docx

First your file is malformed/corrupted for some reason, second your file does have blue headings or any modification of styles from what I've seen in it.
What matters is the style not the text you put in it.
This is the style of your title in your document, it's not black I am afraid.

Thanks you for taking a look. I had previously based my reference-doc according to the reference you provided (or at least I thought I did.) I re-uploaded the custom-reference.docx file in the original post.

I too can see that the rendered document does not conform to custom-format.docx. I just can’t figure out why. Below is an image of the custom-format.docx file.

I really don’t use Word. I’m a user of emacs trying to communicate with a Word-world, which is why I’m interested in Quatro in the first place. Maybe I don’t understand how to generate the custom-format.docx.

Here is what I did: I downloaded the default reference.docx and then changed the Style for each element: Title, Author, Date, Header1 . . . I saved it and used that for —reference-doc. Am I missing something?

Update:
I figured out my problem. I was using Word 365 on an iPad. There was no way (at least that I could find) to edit the Styles. Using a Desktop version, I was able to do so.

For others, remember that you need to edit the definition of a particular Style, not the style of each particular item of Text in the custom-ref.docx file (h is what @mcanouil advised in his post.)
