RSS feed. no index.xml file but there is a sitemap.xml

Description

I converted a Quarto blog to a website by changing the index.qmd to posts.qmd. and creating a new index.md landing page.
The _quarto.yaml has

but there is no index.xml. I do have a sitemap.xml.
Do I just change the index.xml in the yaml file to sitemap.xml? I apologise for such a space cadet question and would like to state how much fun it is working with Quarto, to the extent its getting in the way of my day job such as it is.

If you add feed: true a listing on your website, it'll generate an index.xml for you to link to. So I think you need to have a listing first!

Ah umm are you saying I need to have posts.qmd or posts as a parameter to feed: true? I do of course have a listing page that is posts.qmd and it is in fact populated with posts.

Okay! If you have feed: true on the listing page (under the listing key in your frontmatter), then I believe index.xml should be generated alongside your posts page.

Is the posts page in your project root, or do you have it inside a folder? If it's inside a folder, you might need to modify your href to something like, href: /posts/index.xml. Hard to say without seeing the whole thing.

I have tried that very href but even within the posts folder there is no index.xml
The front matter of the posts.qmd file is:

After previewing the site there are index.html, a posts.html and a sitemap.xml file. No index.xml file is ever generated. All I think to do is move the feed: true from the posts.qmd back to _site.yaml.

Indentation is really important in YAML front matter, so I'd probably need to see that block properly formatted to know whether there was a problem with it!

Thanks a bunch. In the front matter of posts.qmd the feed:true needed to be in the listing section parameters rather than on its own and outdented. I now have my index.xml. Really appreciate the time and assistance.

Sure. In the process I learned about code blocks as opposed to code in mark down. Time for coffee. Clearly going to be a long day:-)

There is no "as opposed to". GitHub uses markdown as Quarto. Quarto only adds brackets to the blocks where computation should happen, but you can have simple code blocks without computations.
