Description
In the Madani Mushaf, the Quran is divided into 60 Hizbs (أحزاب), each split into 4 quarters (أرباع), and each quarter is typically split further into 2 eighths (أثمان). This results in 480 thumns (1/8 Hizb divisions), which are visibly marked in official printed Mushafs with the word "ثمن".
While current metadata includes Juz', Hizb, and Ruba information, there is no standardized or accessible list of thumn (⅛ Hizb) divisions with verse-level precision.
Suggested solution
Provide a
thumns.jsonfile with 480 entries, each including:
thumn_number: 1–480hizb_number: 1–60 (optionally)quarter_number: 1–240 (optionally)- start Surah
start_ayah: and Ayah (or Ayah key, e.g. "2:25")- end surah
end_ayahWhy this matters
Many educators, app developers, and students use the thumn as a fine-grained measure of Quran memorization progress. It’s also used in Quran competitions and review schedules.
Notes
- These divisions do not follow a mathematical split of quarters or verses — they follow the exact positions from the Madani Mushaf layout.
- This data could be extracted from Mushaf images or authoritative digital sources.
