Adding more options to the lower bar

I feel that some important app settings (orientation and the dual page mode, night mode and color setting, translation text size) are hidden from casual users (those that don't bother exploring the settings page).

It is possible to add some or all of these settings to the lower bar the same way most text editing and e-book reading apps do, below is an example from the e-book reading app Moon+ Reader.

Some features can be adopted, like auto scrolling, and titling the device to turn the page.

I can work on some of these features.

I think keeping the interface simple is a good goal as well - and some of the settings you mentioned (portrait/landscape, etc) are going away because Google is pushing apps to be adaptive depending on screen size rather than having dedicated formats for portrait, landscape, etc.

so I'd lean more towards what the iOS app did - exposing an appearance setting that you can also reach from the reading page to be able to quickly swap themes (which other book apps also do - like Kindle, etc). other settings I think are best kept hidden.
