Compiling to RakuAST?

Has there been any thought as to whether or not Template6 will support compiling to RakuAST?

I can see that in the distant-ish future. Of course everybody is free to take on that work, this is a community module, after all. :) I personally don't think RakuAST is in the state that the change would be worth it at the moment, there should be a stable API and preferably some tools that make common operations easier.

Thanks. I'm seeing areas where I can make the changes without too much trouble, so I'm going to start it and see how far I can go. I'll make my changes on a branch.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I loved TT5 when I was using it in the past on Slashcode. Glad to see it coming to Raku.

So I got bored and I started working on it. If you would like to take a look at it, you can find it here. The changes have been restricted to lib/Template6/Parser.rakumod

@Xliff oh yes, I have checked it and it seems that you are making good progress. If you can find a way to integrate it as a sort of experimental feature that doesn't break anything, I think it can even be released when you feel it's ready; I'm curious about the immediate results. :)

@2colours - I've designed things in a way that will do just that. I have confirmed that my latest changes still allow the module to pass the existing set of test cases. Not sure how I will go about testing the rakuast portion of things. Was hoping that I could use the existing test cases, but I am afraid that the variations between your code generation and RakuAST.DEPARSE may not agree.

I may have to take the test cases and repeat them for the RakuAST work.
