The driver only has a compatible for BMP580.

The commit adding support references https://github.com/boschsensortec/BMP5_SensorAPI as the source, and that implies it is for the 580, 581, and 585, so one can hope that it works on all of them.

Whilst Adafruit appear to make modules with all the variants, the main UK resellers don't appear to have picked them up, therefore we have no hardware to test with nor quick way to pick any up.
However as I had an open PR for i2c-sensor I've tagged the untested changes onto it raspberrypi/linux#6823. Please test it.

Just validate sensor, I loaded the Adafruit BMP58X support, and executed the example script from Adafruit, it worked as expected, so the BMP580 sensor is full functional, with Adafruit direct support.

I looked at the source files from adafruit... My python venv path is 'Test'...

I don't see any obvious unique constants for BMP580, versus BMP581 or BMP585 in the adafruit code, with on notable exception:

Odd that the BMP580 and BMP581 use the same chip id?

Are you comparing apples with oranges? The raw in in_temp_raw means that the value holds the unprocessed values in the device registers, without having been converted to a standard unit such as degrees or millibars.
