I can't update the firmware, over-the-air. It tries, then after a period of time, fails.

So, if I go into the web-page for the device, it cannot download a firmware update. It says 0%, and then nothing happens. And then eventually it realizes something went wrong, and it fails. The device still works, however, it's just not up-to-date.

Of course, if I connect my laptop to the device, I can update it that way. This involves opening a step-ladder, standing on top of it, and plugging in a cable into my laptop & ratgdo device. then running the installer and waiting. It's pretty cold where I live, so, not a fan.

What's weirder, is that I bought two devices, one for each door. The other device does not have the same issue, and updates without issue. The devices are both the earlier models.

Any guidance on how to fix is greatly appreciated.

This usually implies something flaky with the WiFi connection. I have had problems OTA updating myself that I solved by temporarily repositioning my WiFi access point. The ESP8266 seems particularly prone to WiFi connection issues.

When all else fails, you do have to fall back to USB port and yes that is no fun when it is on the garage ceiling.
