I would like the copyright field to also be HTML to be able to add CSS style animation

I have tried to make this happen with the following change:
themes/hugo-theme-bootstrap/layouts/partials/footer/copyright.html

<div class="copyright mb-2 text-secondary">
<small>{{- partial "helpers/copyright" . | safeHTML }}</small>
</div>

But this is not the solution.
The copyright now still prints the tag.

I have pushed the change so you are able to see the current status.
At the moment I am a little bit lost.

Do you have hints / tips / thoughts about how this coud be resolved?

To override template, you should put it under your site root rather than themes folder.

In this case, you should put it into layouts/partials/footer/copyright.html.

{{- partial "helpers/copyright" . | htmlUnescape | safeHTML }}
...

Please note that there is a htmlUnescape before safeHTML.
