New Language

Hi! I'm a newbie in Hugo and in web development but sooner or later I've to start!
I'm looking around how to create a new language folder instead the existing ones, such as Italian.
Someone can help me? Thanks!

Assumed that you followed the installation guide.

I recommend copying the content/en for getting to start, because this theme requires some predefined pages for turning their features on, such as search, archive, offline etc.

cp -r content/en content/it

And then put the following configurations in config/_default/languages.toml.

  languageName = "Italian"
  weight = 2
  contentDir = "content/it"
  [it.params] # override the default parameters
    dateFormat = "02-01-2006"
    description = "Site description"
    keywords = "Site keywords"
    # ...

Now, you can access your new language page after restarting hugo server or rebuilding your site. http://localhost:1313/it/ by default.

The last step is that to remove the needless posts, and create a new post.

rm -r content/it/posts/*
hugo new content/it/posts/first-post.md

Please make sure that the content/it/posts exists, otherwise, hugo generates and saves the file as content/en/posts/first-post.md.

Note: there seems a bug of 0.89.4 gohugoio/hugo#9204, I would suggest to use 0.88.1.

Dear reader,

In an attempt to add the Dutch language (Nederlands) to my website I tried to follow all the resources I could find.
I added the languge to the config/_default/languages.toml
I copied as much en directories to nl
I created new content with: # hugo new content posts/new-post/index.md
I created an index.en.md and index.nl.md
But now as I choose the language: Nederlands from the globe menu item my page is completely blank.
Also other side menu items like the series and featured posts are not visible.

I couldn't find: content/en
to do a: cp -r content/en content/nl
And contentDir = "content/en" is not defined in my languages.toml
Also it is not defined in the example site languages.toml

Please would you be willing to help me with pointers on how to make my Dutch (Nederlands) language fully functional?

Why do you put two front matter blocks into your content? Just remove the first then it works.

Btw, if you want to translate UI items into nl, you'll need to translate the en.toml into nl.toml on https://github.com/razonyang/hugo-theme-bootstrap/tree/master/i18n, and then submit a PR.

But now I am wondering, when I am on the contact page it doesn't translate the field titles such as name, subject or message.
When I take a look into the code I get the impression it looks at the i18n settings. I have the nl.toml in my i18n folder. But it seems it is not processed yet.

Am I missing something to have the contact page fields to also be translated as the field names in the nl.toml file definitions?
