DEVELOPER_ERROR in Build AAB android

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering a "DEVELOPER_ERROR" with Google Sign-In in my React Native Android app after releasing it as an AAB bundle through internal testing on the Google Play Console. Here's a summary of the issue:

Google Sign-In works perfectly in the debug build on :

1. Simulator / Debug APK:
   • Google Sign-In works perfectly on both the simulator and when installing the debug APK directly on my device.
2. Release APK:
   • Google Sign-In works correctly when I install the release APK generated by Android Studio directly on my device.
3. iOS (App Store):
   • Google Sign-In works correctly for the iOS version distributed via the App Store.

Problem:
The issue arises only after building the AAB and uploading it for internal testing on the Google Play Console.
Additional Information:

• I'm using Firebase and the package "react-native-google-signin": "^2.1.1".
• I've already contacted Firebase and Google Console support, but they mentioned they don't have specific knowledge about this package.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

same here stack for the full day i think u have to copy the SHA-1 from the play console but this one doesnt worked for me

bro did u get any solution, its been almost 4 days just stack on this configration, im kinda of giving up on it to just use bare signup flow my app doesnt have any it was just google sign but if it doesnt worked i dont have any options just to do normal way

did you solve that issue ? it still doesnt work. i migrated to firebase from just using cloud console but it doesnt work

Firebase google-services.json contains multiple client IDs — but for AAB builds, Firebase alone isn’t enough. You must register and configure the correct OAuth Client ID in Google Cloud Console, tied to your Play App Signing SHA-1.

Solution:

If you're using @react-native-google-signin/google-signin with Firebase Auth in a React Native app and it's only failing on AAB builds (production), here's what worked for me:

Key Fix:
For Debug Builds/Local Testing: (May not work for others)
Use the client ID with "client_type": 3 from your google-services.json.

For Production (AAB Build):

You must use the OAuth 2.0 Web Client ID created in Google Cloud Console, not the Android client ID.

If you don’t already have a matching Web Client ID:

Go to Google Cloud Console

Create a new OAuth 2.0 Client ID (Web Application)

Use the same package name

Then update your app config:
