newArchEnabled=false just creates an app that hangs on the splash screen

Hi @douglowder I know the old arch is being phased out, but the new arch breaks one of our current packages, so have to still use the old arch for the time being.

But using this example and setting the flag to false in the app.json causes the app to just hang on the splash screen, no errors or logs. It doesn't seem to get to the RootLayout

Could you possibly take a look at it, if possible? current version of issue creation inside repo is: 0.79.3-0

Im facing the same issue and its currently not possible for us to switch over to the new architecture yet. Android TV seems to start fine but tvOS hangs on the splash, @douglowder do you have any ideas what could be causing this?

This appears to be related to expo/expo#32760 . There are problems with splash screen on old arch.

Further investigation shows that there is a problem even if expo-splash-screen is removed entirely.

Interesting -- a new app created from the with-tv template does not show the issue, but with-router-tv does, so this may be a router configuration issue.

I created another new app with the with-router-tv template. This one uses latest Expo (SDK 54), and RNTV 0.81.5. I configured app.json with newArchEnabled=false, and set the expo build properties to build RN from source (not use precompiled artifacts). The app displays as expected on Apple TV, no issues.

So there is no fundamental issue, I think -- I'll see if there is something specific in ExpoRouterTV that is causing problems.
