Replace current domain mapping plugin

This won't be quick and simple. But I want to switch to using the domain mapping plugin that is in use on the RBM network. This would mean manually setting the domain mapping in the new plugin for every existing site and deleting the old plugin permanently.

I was looking into alternative methods and found this documentation by WP Engine which was updated very recently, which recommends this plugin developed by Automattic.

This is a bit interesting, since looking at wpengine-common/network.php in our mu-plugins folder it seems WP Engine has their own implementation which we are not using currently.

The current implementation, WPMU DEV's Domain Mapper plugin, shows that it has an update available. I'm not sure if we have a valid license to update that plugin or not. It may fix some of the problems we have with it depending on how outdated it is. The current version is 4.4.2 and we're running 4.2.0.6 and the screenshots here look fairly different than what we have right now

I was also thinking about how we would test this, as Staging automatically generates its own subdomains (sitename-com.realbig.staging.wengine.com, for example). I could put giberish in there of course, but I wouldn't feel confident in it working unless I could access the site and putting in the real domain may mess with the Live instance. It may be possible to test it locally by creating tons of fake entries in my Hosts file and seeing if I can remap it that way. I would just hate for us to attempt to implement a new Domain Mapping solution and screw everything up on the Live multisite due to insufficient testing.
