How to use Github Copilot in VS code

Hello everyone.
I installed the GitHub Copilot extension in VS Code, but I'm having trouble signing in. Even after logging in with my GitHub account, VS Code still shows that I'm not logged in. Could you please help me resolve this issue?

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Reload VS Code
After logging in through the browser, return to VS Code and reload the window
(Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P -> Developer: Reload Window).

Check Github Authentication in VS Code
In the lower-left corner of VS Code, click on your account icon and confirm that you are signed in with the same GitHub account that has Copilot access.

Clear Previous Authentication Sessions

Go to: Settings > Accounts > Sign Out from all GitHub sessions.

Restart VS Code, then sign in again when prompted.

Verify Browser Login Completion
Make sure that browser shows the message "Your device is now connected" after granting access. if it doesn't, try logging in agaiin or use a different browser.

Check for Extension Updates.
Ensure both VS Code and the Github Copilot extension are up to date.

Check Enterprice or Network Restrictions
if you are on a corporate or managed network, firewall rules or proxy settings may block authentication. You may need to allow github domaiins or contact your admin.

Thank you very much for your assistance. I wanted to let you know that the issue has been successfully resolved.
After some investigation, I discovered that the root cause was network restrictions on my end.

Try these steps

1. Sign out of GitHub in VS Code completely

   • Open Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P)
   • Type “GitHub: Sign out” → press Enter
   • Restart VS Code

2. Sign in again

   • Open Command Palette → “GitHub: Sign in”
   • A browser window opens → log in using your GitHub account
   • After logging in, return to VS Code and wait a few seconds

3. Make sure Copilot is enabled

   • Go to Extensions → search for GitHub Copilot
   • Check if it says Enabled

4. Check that GitHub authentication completed

   • Bottom-left of VS Code → click your account icon
   • You should see your GitHub account listed
   • If not → click Sign in with GitHub

5. If it still doesn’t work, clear authentication

   • Command Palette → “Developer: Sign out of all authentication providers”
   • Restart VS Code
   • Sign in again

Bonus quick fix

Sometimes the problem is just caching.
Delete this folder and restart VS Code:

• Windows: %APPDATA%\Code\User\globalStorage\github.copilot
• Mac/Linux: ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/github.copilot
