Severe fps drops in Eclipse Station map

I hope this is the right place to report this issue.

Game version - 2.0.9-9 Steam beta, Linux.

I have a fairly decent GPU - Radeon RX 580 which is able to run the game very well on maximum graphics settings with constant 60+ fps.

But when I tried the map Eclipse Station, I get severe fps drops to unplayable levels, particularly when looking towards the center of the map. I noticed that area of the map has a lot of glass, which I guess might be the cause of the fps drops.

I'm making a few changes on all maps I made or ported to reduce the loud audio. For Station I don't see how I can further improve performance, everything is already as optimized as it can be. Such as using static or noshadows lights wherever possible and appropriate.

It's likely not just Station: If you run the upgraded Cargo you'll likely get the same effect, it's very slow as that layout always has been. The engine likely needs to get a few improvements especially for recently added effects: There are known regressions that need to be improved since adding new amazing but slow graphical effects like blur / DOF. In the meantime the only solution seems to be turning down some of the details from the main menu.

Note that the latest master version 766 doesn't include your latest changes to station, so it's probably in the same state as it was earlier this year. So I currently don't know how is the performance with your latest changes.

I still think the fps drops are due to the heavy use of glass in the central parts of the map - it drops only when I look towards that direction from any part of the map, even if the central area with the glass is hidden behind a wall. And it seems like an issue with the engine, because even in the original Tesseract I've noticed that glass has a more noticeable performance impact than other textures. That's why I don't think it's related to some other new effects like blur or DOF.

But still, these are like insane 100+ fps drops almost to 0 in a fraction of a second, so it's going to be noticeable even for someone with a modern high end GPU. In all other maps I don't get any fps drops. It's always stable 60+ fps on maximum graphics settings.

Do you have a glass window over the round wall at the top computer room / observatory? If so that's the old version: Newer ones removed that to improve performance in that area, the glass windows were focused in places where you can't see quite as many at once. I'm working on a few more layout tweaks which will hopefully improve it a bit further.

But interestingly, I don't get any fps drops at all in your new Cargo 64 remix like you asssumed I would get.

My upcoming update makes a few more lights static / noshadows / nospecular which hopefully helps a bit, even if I can't say I see a difference. I think improvements will be needed engine side to revert some of the slowness that was added last summer with the refractoring at the time.

It could be the new composite textures (they show realtime things like time remaining, scoreboard points etc).
I think the current way to test is to lower compositesize or compositeuprate , see if changing those improves things.

Ok, how do I change these values and what's the min and max values for both of them? I couldn't find the documentation for it.

Also is there any way to revert the changes / return to the default value or see what's the default value?

Just type the variables into the console. It will show the current and default values, as well as min and max.

It doesn't look like lowering these 2 values (even to minimum) brings any improvement. The fps drops remain the same.

Station also has an area in the corner of the map where there is a scoreboard with the remaining time also displayed and I don't get any fps drops in that area of Station (also without changing the 2 values).

So it must be some other texture.

On the contrary, the lower the value of compositeuprate, the higher the performance impact it will have. You want to increase the value for that one.

Is there much difference between low / medium presets? That might narrow it down.
