VS Code test explorer?

I would love to have my ExTests in VS Code test explorer, and be able to run/debug them from there. I have been using https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-extension-test-runner for my unit & integration tests, it works great. I would like to add in UI tests now but continue to be able to run/debug from Test Explorer UI.

Has anyone figured out how to configure ExTests to running correctly from Test Explorer UI?

at the moment we are working on a brand new ExTester VS Code extension which will bring this features and full support from our side.

Hello @kdubau unfortunately we are in big delays with release of extension. But if you are interested you can try out a snapshot version of extension which will be soon released in a preview mode. We will be very happy for every feedback.

Thanks for the snapshot version. I just tried it out and it looks great!
The main thing I encountered: we run our tests directly from TypeScript files using ts-mocha, not from compiled JS files.
Would it be possible to support that through a setting?

And just wondering, will it be open-source?

I’ve been using the Test Explorer and thought of a few improvements that would be helpful:

1. Search functionality within the Test Explorer.
2. Running individual tests directly from the Test Explorer (not easy to implement, I guess).
3. Allow setting environment variables to be passed to the extension during its packaging (maybe something like these "$env:MY_VAR="val"; npx extest setup-and-run ... ").
4. Support for tests with params
   I mean this case:

 params = [ { template: "Class" ... }, { template: "Interface" ... }, ...];
 params.forEach(function (param) {
    it(`new ${param.template}`, async function () {...}

• will it be open-source - of course 💯

• Allow setting environment variables to be passed to the extension during its packaging - 🤔 interesting point, can you elaborate more what is your expectation? would it be suitable to eg have in extension settings a list of env which will be passed when running?
• Support for tests with params - 🚫 this is a very problematic, we tried already but decided to skip effort for a while because of issues and complexity during parsing of files
