How to set bytecode version in a configuration file

Is there a config file which stores the value for the bytecode version? It's always at 23 by default even though I have JavaSE-1.8 set as the JDK.

Solved:
create the file .settings/org.eclipse.jdt.core.prefs and put in the following to set to bytecode version 1.8:

eclipse.preferences.version=1
org.eclipse.jdt.core.compiler.codegen.targetPlatform=1.8
org.eclipse.jdt.core.compiler.compliance=1.8
org.eclipse.jdt.core.compiler.source=1.8
