Errors not showing up in console

I'm just trying out remix for the first time, and I think I've got something configured wrong. In development, when I get errors they don't appear in the console. Instead I get a 500 status error.

I understand that it's because the backend is encountering the error rendering the site before the frontend does, but when the error is developing frontend related (like visually), not having the error in the console breaks the flow of development and you don't get any of the nice console features like auto linking to code.
