I'm currently trying to setup renovate for a few repos in our organization, where the renovate user account is a developer member. Steps I've taken:

1. Setup Renovate Account
2. Create Personal Access Token for Renovate Account
3. Add CI Variable RENOVATE_TOKEN
4. Create .gitlab-ci.yml

I debugged the gitlab api, and figured, that providing an additional Bearer Authheader with the PAT from the renovate user, the request works fine now. Is it possible to add additional headers to the renovate requests?

You need to add the header you want in an allowedHeaders field as well. See the other comments in the discussion for clarification.

I got the configuration right now:

That host rule will send it every single host, which is probably a bad idea

My problem was not related to authentication but due to gitlab api errors caused by apache configuration.

Providing a custom header with 'Authorization: Bearer ' works for me now, kinda, but you have to place the headers config in the renovate.json in the testing repo, see here #26983. I get a config error, but it works somehow, here are the logs:

This is 2024 raised issue should be solved in software rather than config related workaround:

• if Authorization: Bearer xxxx header is really needed in config (which I doubt), the header should be automatically added in the resolved config since the token + endpoint info are known.
• The real issue is the string ID used to retrieve the project details. The Gitlab project numeric ID is reliable across proxy transformation as well as being a stable project identifier. Would you reconsider using numeric IDs instead ?
• NOTE: Repositories not found #40875 should be closed as a duplicate of the current discussion.

Impact

The entire renovate process cannot run to completion as ... the Gitlab project cannot be retrieved.

Timeline for fix ?

This issue is still occurring with the latest stable renovate/gitlab version (see below).
What's the likely timeline for a fix ? I am happy to create an issue as this can't go on unresolved.
