Migrate away from FluentAssertions

It looks like with a recent license change, if you use FluentAssertions v8 in any sort of commercial use, you are on the hook for a license charge of $138 per developer that uses the library.

This is a request feature to either migrate away from that style of assertion all together, or to migrate to a different library that doesn't incure a per developer cost as a part of the usage of the library.

As far as i can tell, reqnroll is non commercial software and doesnt ship FA anywhere, so there is no need to upgrade to FA v8. Not Immediately anyway. It might be a good idea to pin the current FA version though.

Sidenote: i quick look around seems to indicate that reqnroll is still using v6 FA.

And even if reqnroll would upgrade, it does not need a paid license as non commercial project.

Wouldn't the transitive property apply here in that if you were using Reqnroll in a commercial application, then it implies the usage of all underlying libraries also would be within that license? It doesn't necessarily mean Reqnroll would need to do it, as it could be a choice to keep it that way, but it would limit the ability of users of the library to use it in a more commercial setting.

No, by that logic you'd have to get a license for everything thats in the .NET BCL aka you'd have to get a license for everything that microsoft uses to develop .NET, regardless of whether its actually distributed with their nuget packages or not.

Reqnroll doesnt expose you to FA (doing that would be close to insanity).

That makes sense then. You are only consuming the code that is included int he NuGet package, which does't include any references for FluentAssertions, as those are only tied to the testing aspect and not included in the final NuGet packge. Thanks for the response. This discussion can be shut down.

The reference to this in the new project dialog has been removed now as well.
