Yes, the defrost cycle is completely normal and necessary. Go take a look at the outdoor unit’s fins just prior to defrost and it’ll be almost entirely covered in snow/frost/ice. The unit brings the hot liquid back to the condenser and melts this all away. What have you been noticing incorrect? |

@Rev-777 I started a new discussion to avoid dragging the original away, but apologies I am slightly off topic for the whole forum here. I've bought one Faikin module to test but not screwed up the courage to install yet - I'm getting very close due to frustration with the temperature readouts from the built in sensors.
Our installation is a 5MXM90A2V1B9 with 3xFTXM25R2V1B, 1xFTXM20R2V1B and 1xFTXM60R2V1B
There is a second (possibly related) issue with frost/defrost cycles on the 5MXM at sub-zero temperatures. Frost builds up, and when it defrosts (up to hourly), heating is compromised for 15-20 minutes. Internal fans stop, the unit defrost takes 5 min (loads of water ejected) and then it takes 10-15 min to get back to full power. Have you noticed similar, since I see you are running in sub zero temp?
I fear a similar issue with the external unit thermistor, as I am able to see with the internal units. I will know more if I get around to installing the Faikin (and potentially voiding my warranty - at present I'm trying to get Daikin to fix it but I'm aware this may be a futile exercise and workaround may be all I have.)
