Data allowance: a potential solution to the filesize limit

I understand why there is a 20mb filesize limit. File storage costs money. But what if users could pay for the file storage themselves?
Users could give you money, which is added to what I will call a Data Allowance.
Then, when users upload stuff that goes above the filesize limit, their Data Allowance is used to cover the cost.

If they try to upload something without enough money in their Data Allowance, show the current popup for exceeding the filesize limit with an added button to buy more Data Allowance.

What about a free option that has a short time limit? (Example 1GB could be shared but only for 5-10 mins)
Self destructing file shares? Limit how many you can do per day even?
I agree it takes space somewhere and that costs but this is the whole reason I hate discord, it has become a capitalist marketplace for shoving products in our faces left and right. Give users a taste of how much better it could be even if its only 10 min max share time and still have a paid option.
