whois support is not mandatory anymore since January, and it looks Google has decided to save the effort.
I am still not sure of what to do about this since there are over 1000 new gTLDs for which whois support may be removed very soon, or not.

You can change it to query the rdap server.

Google has closed its WHOIS query service, you can now only use RDAP
