Illegal instruction (SIGILL) when running RisingWave on CPU without AVX2 (testing only)

Hi RisingWave community 👋

I’m trying to run RisingWave on a Kubernetes cluster for testing purposes only, but it crashes immediately with:

Environment

• Official RisingWave Docker image
• CPU flags include avx, sse4_1, sse4_2
• No avx2 support
• Crash happens immediately on startup

From the documentation, this seems related to unsupported CPU instructions (AVX2) causing a SIGILL.

Constraints

• ❌ Cannot upgrade/change node CPU
• ✅ Testing / non-production use case
• ✅ Custom image build is possible if required

Questions

1. Is there any official or older RisingWave image/tag that works without AVX2?
2. Has anyone successfully run RisingWave on AVX-only CPUs for testing?
3. Are there recommended build flags or configs to produce a non-AVX2-compatible build?
4. Is running RisingWave outside the cluster the only viable workaround?
