Inherit FG&BG from terminal?

How can I configure elinks so that documents (and ideally, also UI) are colored according to my terminal colors? (kinda like Lynx). I've read that forcing mono or 16color mode should be enough, but that seems hackish. What's the "proper" way to do it?

In 24 bit color mode colors, especially foreground, are as given in documents and options.
In 256 color mode and 16, number of color is calculated based on palette, somewhere in source code.
If palette of elinks differs from palette of terminal, then might be some "mistakes".
Colors are shown in the pallete of terminal, so first step would be to set 256 or 16 color mode.
I guess there is some escape sequence to read terminal's palette, did not search for it.

Colors in options can be given as "color$number", for example color10, color123, etc. So they better match.
