Prepare for first major release

@shukra-in-spirit not sure if you are planning to do this imminently but my recommendation would be to defer this. I say this because we should wait for the golang-buddies devs to consume this and provide us with feedback first. This is an essential step to iron out any bugs or inefficiencies we may not be aware of.

v1.0.0 signifies a public release but we are not constrained by not having it as a public release since we are fortunate to have a private user base, prepared to use it.
