Letter differences in Inter & Inter Variable

Hey folks!

Here's the same text with Inter & Inter Variable rendered in Figma:

Variable font looks a bit tighter by default (due to the automatic optical sizing setting being on, I assume). It also contains ink traps (as in 'M', 'm' and 'n') and slightly changed angles in terminals (as in letter 't').

I was wondering if both variations are made different by design, or I'm just using an outdated versions of the font.
