I'm not sure about this, but it seems like the 1000-em versus 2048-em difference is more about the resolution of the individual glyphs in the font. The 2048-em is like a higher-resolution version of a photo. At small sizes they're indistinguishable, but if you're using a huge font size the 2048-em version will look better. Probably... |

What does this really mean and what implications does it have? If I use Symbols Nerd Font with fontconfig on Linux, how do I decide which variant (1000-em vs 2048-em) is the best? What if both variants are installed, is fontconfig able to select the right variant for particular font automatically?
