poll enhancement to prevent abuses

The poll plugin although nice, lacks abilities to stop multi voting, all they have to do is close browser reopen and vote again.

It would be good if it had a database entry for per-poll voters, I'm not suggesting and in fact would strongly argue against, recording what option an IP voted for, and only that for eg: 1.2.3.4 votes on poll A, so the plugin will check and see that and not offer them ability to vote again in poll A just showing the current results, but would still allow them to cast vote in other polls they have not voted in.

Further, it would be nice to have an option to create a poll inside and only inside a blog article (as well as perhaps a global poll).

My suggestion would be to change the cookie from a session cookie to a longer lasting one, and maybe also save the has voted check additionally in localStorage. That might already help a bit. The IP check could be an optional and additional feature? Storing IP is in some places not that easy.

Adding polls to blog entries would also be a nice and reasonable extension of the plugin, though to add it to the existing logic might need need quite some thinking.

But that plugin hasn't seen updates in a while, and we are short of maintainers. So while your suggestions might trigger them, it could be worth it if you could implement those improvements to the plugin. It is part of the addition_plugin repository at https://github.com/s9y/additional_plugins/tree/master/serendipity_plugin_pollbox, where your changes could then be added.

Thanks, changed the cookie setting and has helped for sure already, I understand it wouldnt be a 5 minute job to modernise it :)
I don;t really code only administer, my limit of code is limited to perl so it wouldnt end well.
