BangPypers x SciPy India (February 2026) #30

@agriyakhetarpal

Description

@agriyakhetarpal

We met with the BangPypers folks on Saturday, 10th January, and discussed what a joint meetup in February could entail. Thanks, @Haleshot, for spearheading this initiative and putting together the agenda doc! Since they agreed to do this, I'm creating this issue to track the work publicly; however, most of the conversation will happen in the thread that @malayajac has started on our Zulip (in-between SciPy India volunteers) and our Discord chat with the BangPypers, not here on GitHub. A few points to summarise:

  • One joint link aggregator will display both our CFP link and their CFP link
  • We need our CFP to be changed, as our wording is mostly for an online setting – we need a separate issue template for that
  • Tentative date for the CFP to be opened from our end and BangPypers' end – SciPy India volunteers will discuss things in their meeting tonight (12th January) and pitch forward plans to BangPypers
  • We can send them a design for the social media posts, and they can then suggest if they like it and/or need any changes to be made
  • BangPypers will coordinate with potential venues, and perform all other in-person arrangements
  • Malayaja and Srihari will be available to attend the meetup in person
  • We'll have two speakers per community, and the general aim will be to avoid talks related to generative AI. Our aim will be to get one speaker who's a researcher or scientist in Bangalore and get them to explore a Python meetup's setting
  • BangPypers mentioned that they will announce this meetup at their January one, which will happen this weekend I think (January 17th)
